Country Garden in Buckinghamshire
|
The clients wanted a formal garden close to the house, a swimming pool, a fruit garden and lots of space for their four children and friends to play. The lawn at the rear of the house was levelled for croquet and the island borders symmetrically designed. The existing York stone terrace was extended around the side of the house, leading to the swimming pool surrounded by sun loving shrubs and perennials. Access to the main garden is via the rear garden and via the swimming pool. The slope from both was terraced with a brick retaining wall topped with ornate railings. From the rear garden, wide steps flanking a shrub border lead into a hornbeam allee running the length of the garden. A space to contemplate before reaching the tranquility room with its revolving summerhouse and reflective pools. To the left of the allee is a dry stone walled raised bed for fruit, leading on to an orchard. To the right of the allee are two dry stone walled raised shrub beds. The swimming pool steps lead into the main garden which is laid to lawn for children's sports. Additional trees are planted around the perimeter for privacy from the nearby road.
